Ph.D Thesis Research on Topology of Large Scale Resource Locating Overlay Network [English Abstract]

Research Projects
  1. P2P network model and applications. Sponsored by National Science Foundation of China. (2005-2007)
Abstract: This project proposes three key factors of P2P network model: behavior character, topology character and performance character. Firstly we will build the generic p2p network behavior model by describing the combination of several behavior characters based on the graph theory. Secondly, grounded on the proposed behavior model, we will analyze the effect of behaviors on the network topology. Then we will build the performance model of p2p network based on the complex network topology theory, and analyze the effect of behavior and topology on performance. At last we will utilize the proposed p2p network model to optimize the network architecture of P2P content distributing in data grid.
The signification of this project is:
    (1) Proposing the three key factors of P2P network model for the fist time.
    (2) Exploring, opening out and abstracting the essence of P2P network, lucubrating, understanding and utilizing P2P network.
    (3) Providing theory directions for designing novel P2P network applications, promoting the vitality and capability of competition of the application after the real deployment of the application.
  2. Visualization tools for parallel program debugging. Sponsored by Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (2003-2005)
Abstract: This project mainly focuses on improvements of parallel language MPI debugging tool—XMPI based on LAM/MPI platform. Improvements include adding MPI standard functions overhead time statistic visualization; Trace and visualization all the involving physical nodes running status information timely; MPI communication detail information displaying and corresponding MPI program source code line location finding. Another significant improvement is that we implement the checkpoint and restart function in XMPI, which makes it efficient and convenient to debug long time parallel programs.
  3. Research on the infrastructure environment and protocol standard of information Grid. Sponsored by Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (2003-2005) [URL]
Abstract: This project is part of the Shanghai Grid. It aims to integrate HPCs geographically distributed in the campus and further in other universities and Shanghai Super Computing Center. University users can easily and securely gain access to the high performance computing resources through web pages. Now the first version of the Grid system software – SHGOS 1.0 has been developed. It provides:
    (1)User Certification
    (2) Performance Monitoring
(3)Job Submission( both sequential and parallel )
    (4)Job Monitoring
  4. CuteP2P[URL]
  5. Other: ChinaGrid, ShanghaiGrid
